every murder has to take place somewhere
The Domes
Lush livable ecosystems scavenged from the hallowed-out mines on the moon. Cooperation is essential for survival and independence from Planetside.
PLanetside
Back on earth, things have gotten worse. The politicians are the billionaires and only the elite matter. United Federation of America and the Russian Federation vie for power in both worlds.
Characters
who’s in this story
Aletha remembers the last time she was saddled with a murder case; it was a mess. She hasn’t touched murder cases since, and she’s not going to take this one. Is she? The thing is, Aletha has the ability to “see” moods as auras, which is unusual enough. She also can tell when someone’s lying, if she’s looking for it. She might be the only person in the Domes able to cut through the flash of lies and find the truth.
Aletha
Dejen
Dejen just wants to be left alone to study dead bodies in peace. They’re so much more interesting than live people. At least the live ones mostly leave him alone since he and Aletha decided to split an office.
Luís just wants a safe place to raise his adorable daughter. He moves back to Turtle Dome in spite of the painful reminders of Vangelis, his deceased husband, but he can’t quite regret the decision when he meets Aletha again.
Luís
Zora
Mayor Zora is just trying to keep this big rock out of the clutches of Planetside goons. Just now, it’s American billionaires and politicians she’s worrying about. Then a politician’s daughter turns up dead in her dome and all hell breaks loose.
Flash of Lies
When the body of a Planetside president’s daughter is found in the prairie that sustains a lunar Dome, Inspector Aletha Nellson and her partner, Dejen, are assigned to the case—even though Aletha has only solved one other murder case. She accepts, in spite of the challenge of keeping her maligned aura-based abilities secret. When an old friend from her past appears, she’s determined not to let him distract her from discovering why the off-planet celebrity was killed. But when unanswered questions compel Aletha to travel to the victim’s home planet, Luís Diaz goes with her, posing as her fiancé to help her face deadly new dangers on earth. As her beloved home and everyone she loves are targeted by Planetside politics, Aletha strives to solve the case before an assassin stops her. Can she uncover the truth while nearly everyone around her lies?
